«We left Greece and Canada respectively to study in London and as luck would have it, we ended up living in the same building (Lance’s room was exactly three floors below mine). Strangely enough, we didn’t meet while living there but through a mutual friend at our college’s Christmas ball a year later. The proposal came three and a half years later, at the top of a New York skyscraper overlooking all of Manhattan: candles and flowers everywhere, the sweetest words I’ve ever heard, and I said the big ‘yes’ (right after catching my breath from crying).»

«The first piece of advice I’d give a bride currently planning her wedding is to take as much time as needed and speak with several professionals in each area until she finds people who truly match her. I know time often feels tight and everything seems chaotic, but honestly, the result will be worth it on the day if she chooses people she trusts completely to do exactly what’s been agreed – and to do it the way she envisioned. Personally, almost every bride I know has told me about at least one vendor they booked in a rush and regretted it for some reason. When it was my turn, I spent months researching even the tiniest detail. It was exhausting at times but I loved everything – from the food and photography to the makeup, favors, and the candles on the staircase. It definitely takes time and a lot of patience.»

The second piece of advice is more of a reminder: the day belongs to you and your partner. Whatever you choose to do deserves to be respected by everyone because this is a day that won’t come again, and you deserve to remember a wedding exactly the way you dreamed it. Simple, but so easy to forget in the chaos of planning – so I wanted to say it loud and clear.

The site Love4Weddings was a lifesaver especially at the beginning of the process when I had no idea where to start or who to ask about different vendors.

«My bridal bouquet was a blend of white blooms (I chose peonies, lilies and roses). For the wedding decor, we went for a minimal-chic style with only white flowers, greenery and lots of candles. The color came from the landscape itself since the venue was right by the sea. We had a civil ceremony, so the chapel wasn’t decorated, but I absolutely loved the floral arch we got married under. My favorite detail, though, was the little olive branch tied with string onto each guest’s napkin. I really loved the idea, and The Garden in Kallithea, who did the wedding styling, brought to life exactly what I had in mind.»

«Finding the dress was hands down my favorite part of planning the wedding. I didn’t have a specific idea at first about what I wanted and tried on so many styles and shades before deciding (I think around 90 dresses). The one I eventually chose was actually one of the first I had tried on: it was made of ivory crepe fabric, and the style was somewhere between mermaid and A-line, with off-the-shoulder sleeves. I loved it, and after I chose it, I found out that the designer was from Canada – I guess that country was always meant to be part of my story.»

«The whole wedding felt like a dream, but our favorite moment – for both of us – was exchanging our vows: there was something so personal, emotional, and powerful about it, and it’s a moment that will stay with us both for the rest of our lives.»
