«Robert and I met in a way that often ends quickly: we were introduced by best friends of ours, setup on a blind date. That first date didn’t quite go as intended. We jokingly reminisce that Robert “stood me up” after he had to work on a project over the weekend, and never reached back out to me on the original day we’d planned to meet in person. A week later, I thankfully decided to give it another try, and agreed to meet him on a Sunday afternoon at the Rose Bar in Gramercy Park. We like to fondly joke that I made him work extra hard until I gave him the time of day, and it took a bit of convincing by my friends, for me to continue to agree to newly-planned dates with him.»

«Fast forward from our first meet in June 2019, to the loving relationship we developed, as unforeseen changes interrupted our lives in early 2020. Robert and I planned a visit to Santorini in May 2020. As the world shut down for COVID, my world shut down after my father unexpectedly passed away in April 2020. We cancelled our much-anticipated Santorini trip, with no plans to reschedule. In May 2022, Robert surprised me with a trip to a mysterious destination. Unbeknownst to me, Robert coordinated with everyone at my office to ensure that I had scheduled days out of the office. He surprised me with a trip to Santorini; I had a feeling that he had something special planned. After all, a surprise trip is not something that we’ve ever done! He clutched his carry-on bag during that flight abroad – I surely hoped that it may have something valuable inside! Robert- not generally an avid traveller- thoughtfully planned every single detail. He surprised me with a private dinner on our terrace of the room; he was visibly shaken and insisted on wearing his blazer as we sat in the hot, strong sun! With the anticipation high and endless smiles, Robert got on one knee and I immediately started crying. We were both floating on Cloud 9, and it was a moment that neither of us will forget. We like to fondly reminisce on the intimate moment between Robert, myself, and our dinner server, George!», the bride shared with us.

Robert and I both get goosebumps when we reminisce on the beauty of the lake. There is no way to sufficiently put into words the serenity, the beauty, and the charm that are all inherent to Lake Como. The icing on top of the metaphorical cake is the beauty that one fully enjoys from the vantage point of Villa del Balbianello. Although we’re biased, we find the view unbeatable. It makes the need for elaborate flowers and decor much less necessary!

«We both are keen on classic greenery, and bold and elegant accents. We did not want a mix of colors and flower types, as we were worried that would minimize and distract away from the grand beauty of the lake and surrounding mountains. Robert and I also are huge fans of candles. We both envisioned a sort of Beauty and the Beast scene with a room aglow with romantic, oversized candelabras. Our florist, Sophia at il Profumo del Fiori, was thoughtful in guiding us toward the best flowers for the season and venue space. She went through many design iterations with us, and we knew with certainty once we found the perfect design! She was supportive of our vision, and she brought it to reality with her creative genius.»

«As my wedding gown had a whisper of soft colors embroidered onto the body of the dress, I knew that a simple yet elegant bouquet would be best. I hoped to carry Lily of the Valley with me down the aisle. Sophia warned me that it would be difficult to source Lily of the Valley in Italy in September- true to her expertise, she made my dream come true and sourced the Lily of the Valley! This was a small detail that really did mean so much to me. I kept the flowers in a glass with water overnight after our wedding, and Robert and I enjoyed their fragrance after the wedding ended!»

«En route to Italy for our wedding, I travelled with my best friend, Tori, to London. We went to pick up my couture wedding dress, and had such a good time together – we celebrated my last days as a single woman. After the quality time, I landed in Milan, and couldn’t stop smiling the entire time I was in Italia. Emotions were high, smiles were big, and a sense of euphoria was all-encompassing.»

It’s almost impossible to specify a favorite moment that entire weekend. But, if I were to distinguish the most meaningful moment, it was Robert and I reading our vows aloud in front of our family and friends, and of course, upon saying “I do!”

The bride’s advice: «While everyone has a different timeline, we were thankful for a one and a half year engagement. Especially with a wedding that we hosted abroad (and with full-time jobs that are quite demanding), having some extra time allowed us to enjoy the process. We didn’t feel pressured with time, and we felt good about the time that our guests had to book travel for the festivities. While it sounds intuitive, I emphasize the focus on your guests’ experience should really be the most important consideration. Look back at weddings you’ve attended. I’m amazed by couples that prioritize decor over easy transportation for guests, for example. People will remember their experience much more than they remember the decor – and so it makes sense to consider the all-in experience. We put a lot of time and consideration into our seating chart for dinner (we had at least 5 iterations!) Great music, food, beverages, and accommodation were also very important to us.»

«Like every bride, I was on a quest to find a wedding dress that was perfect. I really don’t like shopping, and I don’t like making big decisions when there are so many options. I wanted to wear something classic, but with a tasteful spark of fun that would embody the enchanting Lake Como. London-based couture designer Phillipa Lepley was an answer to my prayers. She spent a ton of time with me to ensure she understood my wishes and she expertly crafted my left-brained thoughts into a creative piece of art. She was methodical and analytical to determine the right cut to flatter my body. We chose to use a heavy, ivory Italian duchess satin – I knew it was the right decision once I found out that the satin was sourced from Lake Como! I spent so much time (and many trips to London) with Phillipa’s diligent and skilled team. From the initial brainstorming with Phillipa, to discussing details of a whisper of floral embroidery on the bodice, the experience was one that I will never forget. I felt beautiful in my wedding dress, and I really never wanted to take it off.»

«Although we grew up in the same town our whole lives somehow our paths never crossed. It wasn’t until our mutual friend groups both rented houses at the Jersey shore for the summer that we actually met. We were strictly friends for a couple of years before that friendship turned into more. We are big travelers and try to explore new cities as much as we can, so in the summer after 4+ years of dating we took a trip to Alaska. We took a small plane excursion to see some of Alaska’s glaciers and the pilot was able to land so we could get out and explore. So, there we were on this remote glacier when Frank proposed! It was a magical, scenic, one-of-a-kind moment that truly is unforgettable. », the bride shared with us.

Our venue pretty much spoke for itself with their floral garden and the ivy all along the walls, so we wanted to choose flowers that complimented what already existed.

There was a moment that hit us throughout our wedding when we were overcome with emotion recognizing that all of our closest friends and family traveled across the world for us and really taking that in. We loved that we could give our guests a full experience with 3 days of wedding events with hopefully memories that would last a lifetime!

Three beautiful days lasted the destination wedding of Clare and Ross in Italy, with their guests traveling from all over the world to celebrate their love, so we knew immediately we were in store for some beautiful scenery and heartfelt moments in these pictures captured by Gianluca & Mary Adovasio! The beautiful gardens of the noble residence Villa Le Fontanelle created the perfect canva for Bianco Bouquet to decorate the setting with the prettiest flowers and romantic details creating for Clare and Ross the dreamiest of days!

«We met while studying at USC in business class. The class focused on communication (public speaking, delivering bad news, teamwork, and remote projects). We quickly became best friends and have been together for 10 years now! Initially, Ross planned on proposing during our trip to Lake Como in May 2020 (hence why we chose Italy for our wedding location) – but that was cancelled due to the pandemic. Ross later proposed September 2020 as a day filled with surprises. We started our day at USC at our favorite bench where we used to spend time between classes. He had planned a little scavenger hunt/puzzle that mimicked The Amazing Race (one of our favorite shows to watch together). Afterwards, we had brunch at a restaurant close by. Then, we drove down south to a park in Newport Beach and that’s where Ross proposed! He had planned surprise photographer to capture the moment. To keep the celebration going – Ross chartered a private sailboat where we went out to see the sunset (for our very first date together, we had sailed on a little dinghy and saw dolphins). Overall, Ross’ proposal was incredibly thoughtful – he wanted to make sure each surprise was an ode to our relationship and special moments we’ve had together. », the bride shared with us.

«Flowers were one of our top priorities and we felt it helped set a certain mood throughout our whole wedding. We are fortunate enough to live near a flower market, so we were very precise in what type of flowers we utilized: roses, proteas, wax flowers, bells of Ireland, peonies, larkspur, sweet peas, allium, artichoke flowers, agapanthus, and Amaranthus, astilbes, scabiosa, and lilies of the valley.»

We specifically chose pastel color palettes with a focus on mauves, lavender, white, and pinks, while having pops of color with pale yellow and stronger shades of pink and purple. Our overall theme was a modern garden party – we wanted our ceremony to feel very organic and romantic. When I first walked down the aisle, the flowers were so beautiful it literally took my breath away. It was the most complimented piece by our guests!…

«While for our dinner we had modern touches on the table but cascading flowers hanging down the pergola… Modern touches were represented through our use of neon signs and disco party room for dancing! The dance room was incredible and the work our vendors did was beyond our dreams. All our guests danced nonstop, and we really felt the disco ball and covering the room in tinsel (floor to ceiling) set the mood. We also added in some unique touches like custom napkins (crests from our wedding invitation and a portrait of our dog, Otis). Overall, we let the flowers shine through and feel they adorned the venue nicely, while decorating our wedding! »

My favorite moment was spending time with all our loved ones. Given the nature of our international wedding, we were fortunate enough to have a 3-day wedding event (welcome dinner, rehearsal dinner, wedding day). We had guests who traveled across the world and some we hadn’t seen in 5+ years. The amount of time and events we had allowed us to have a more relaxed pace.

The brides advice: «Overall, a few key tips: Work with a planner/coordinator (if you’re able) – this helped guide us through the process and our wedding planner (Marta from Bianco Bouquet) was amazing! Set a budget and prioritize the most important things. Also, allow for some leeway as it’s likely you’ll go over budget. Get a videographer. This was a last-minute decision we made and I’m so glad we did. When doing research, I saw not getting a videographer was one of the biggest regrets from weddings! Ensure deliverables are met from your vendors…»

« We did a first look (which helped ease the nerves a lot) and set aside time for just us 2 right after the ceremony. We were able to really soak up the experience together and have some alone time before all the guests crowd you. Don’t invite someone out of obligation – only extend invites to those you would want there. Planning in advance is key (it’s really never too early). This helps you ensure you are securing your first choices, as well as understanding what’s going on! We took planning as a time to bond together and actually really enjoyed the whole process. With all that said, be sure to focus on yourselves. You are the ones getting married – not your family or friends. Do anticipate some people making foolish comments or assumptions (this is bound to happen). The day is about you and your love, so do what you want! Soak it all up! Despite weddings typically being stereotypically stressful, we genuinely feel our wedding day was stress free and we were both so present! »

«My beautiful wedding dress is called Chai from an Israeli designer, Netta BenShabu. I was lucky to customize the dress, and have it tailor made for myself. It was important to me to have tulle and an off the shoulder dress. I felt gorgeous and still have my dress to this day! »

From the Photographer: «There is a Neapolitan word, “ammoìna”, which can be translated in “noise, confusion, dizziness». It comes from the Spanish word “amohinar”. When during dinner I confessed to Filippo and Marta that I would not have expected such involvement from their guests, the groom replied smiling “I love to surround myself with people who make a lot of noise”, because Marta and I are like that too. Their wedding has been the perfect conjunction between Spain and Italy, full of dances and smiles. «We met in San Diego California. Our connection dates back to 2008 when our daughters were both part of the same competitive soccer team. They played together for a couple of years before taking different paths, leading us to lose touch for several years. However, fate had other plans, and a serendipitous encounter brought us back together nearly a decade later. The rest, as they say, is history» the bride shared with us.

«John chose the picturesque setting of Paso Robles, California, to pop the question. We were seated beneath the shade of a magnificent 100-year-old oak tree, nestled in the heart of a vineyard. Savoring a bottle of wine, he seized the moment and asked me to be his forever. The charm of Tuscany, with its reminiscent beauty, played a significant role in our decision to elope there, capturing the essence of the place where our engagement unfolded.»

When you have the rolling hills of Tuscany and the backdrop of Montepulciano as your ceremony backdrop you do not need much in the way of decorations, but we made sure that all the elements we did include were inspired by the rustic charm and natural beauty of the Tuscan countryside. «My favorite part of the decoration details was the private balcony off of our room that was turned into a Tuscan fairytale by our floral designer. We had olive branches and greenery from a Tuscan vineyard that was installed overhead on the balcony overhang with tons of hanging candles to create the most romantic lighting. The same olive branches, greenery, and candles were placed all around the balcony from floor area to our dinner table, the cake table, etc. »

We enjoyed reading Chic and Stylish Weddings and learning about the beautiful stories and weddings you featured. It inspired us to really be intentional about making sure our day was a representation of our love and our story.

Opting to elope and later celebrate with a grand reception back home allowed us to seamlessly dedicate the entire day to ourselves. Despite the intimate elopement, no corners were cut in terms of details or expenses. Every element typically found in a traditional wedding – exquisite decor, a stunning venue, and all the customary features – was present. However, the key difference was that it was just the two of us, relishing a moment of undivided attention and devotion. Having both experienced the grandeur of large weddings in our previous marriages, we recognized how easily the focus can shift towards entertaining guests rather than celebrating the essence of the couple. In contrast, our elopement spared us from such considerations, enabling us to channel 100% of our energy and focus exclusively on our love. Our decision to embark on a second journey into matrimony allowed us to curate an authentic experience tailored solely for us. The absence of external expectations meant we could truly immerse ourselves in the creation of a meaningful and personalized celebration. This was an opportunity to honor our love story in a way that felt genuine, profound, and true to the unique connection we share. »

Italy is always a good idea, especially for a destination wedding in Tuscan! With panoramic views of the rolling Tuscan hills below, Sarika and Luke shared their first moments as newlyweds in an al fresco garden of a beautiful villa with stunning views. We are completely smitten by all the Indian wedding traditions with the flower garlands, impressive red roses and lush greenery with linoleum set a scene that simply took our breath away! Nikos Gogas captured every beautiful moment from this couple’s wedding and we are simply bursting to share their story with you today!

“We got married in summer in Tavarnelle Val de Pesa, Florence. We met each other upon starting a new job in the New York City metro area! Luke set out to find his soulmate and took a chance at seeing who might “click” on match.com. He came across a profile that charmed him instantly of a beautiful lady with big dreams but strong roots. That was Sarika. After connecting online and the phone, he jumped on the train to New York City to meet her in person at a French restaurant. After five hours of amazing conversation and discovering a deep sense of connection, the relationship took off from there and the rest made history! Luke kneeled down and asked Sarika to spend the rest of her life with him on the banks of the Hudson River with the setting sun on a warm summer evening with the breathtaking New York skyline as the backdrop. And she said yes! She couldn’t imagine spending the rest of her life with anyone else. My wedding dress was an Indian bridal Lehenga which I loved. It was a beautiful red silhouette with hand embroidered flowers”, Sarika shared with us.

“Sarika, the architect always had a love affair with Florence and its beauty, architecture, landscape and rich history. She dreamed of getting married in Florence since college. This dream came true in June 2019 at a beautiful Tuscan villa in Tavarnelle Val di Pesa surrounded by stunning vistas with a view of the city of Florence. This setting was breathtakingly picture perfect and they wanted to celebrate this natural landscape and keep everything else very simple and elegant. The outdoor wedding ceremony was unique as it was a combination of Indian and western traditions. The flowers that we chose were large dark red and peach roses with linolium. The ceremony took place under an olive tree with rolling Tuscan hills and vineyards as the backdrop. There were garlands made with large red roses that we exchanged according to the Indian wedding traditions. The reception had round tables with beautiful and simple rose arrangement in the middle, wine corks holding guests name and candeles and all the tables situated with hanging string lights above. It was a magical outdoor evening setting that we loved!”

“The most favourite moment from our wedding is when we exchanged our vows to each other that we had composed ourselves with the live. harp and violin music in the background with all our friends and family from all over the world set in the beautiful Tuscan landscape”.

Bride’s advice: “This was a destination wedding for us. Our advice would be to find a place that truly resonates with you for your wedding and has deep meaning. It would also be great to find an engaged and professional wedding planner who knows the area inside out like we found in Laura Mugnai from Florence”.

Romance meet elegance in the wonderful wedding video of today’s couple that will transport us in one of the most romantic cities in the world, Venice! Mari and Efthimis love travelling around the world and with their moto “Live, Love, Travel” decided that Italy was the perfect spot for celebrating their special day. Amazing backdrops, spectacular views and ultra-romantic snapshots made our hearts just melted… We let you discover the love story of this wonderful couple through the following wedding video, edited beautifully by Cinema of Poetry!

The bride shared with us: “He proposed totally unexpectedly in the exact same spot we first met, in Monastiraki square down town Athens about 11 years ago. We had a summer wedding in Venice Italy. Our wedding decoration was minimal, white and romantic. We love travelling around the world, so the element of traveling was everywhere in our wedding’s details. Our wedding moto was “Live, Love, Travel. We planned and arranged everything ourselves distantly from phone or email from Athens. Luckily, everything turned out to be great and even better than we had imagined it would be. I am a fashion designer myself so i designed and made my own wedding gown. I wanted a fairytale dress that would bet elegant and minimal combining elements of sheer, lace and crystals.”

“My favorite moments of our wedding were arriving to the church from the grand canal by motoscafi accompanied and handed over to the groom by my brother and coming out of the Saint Giorgio dei Greci Church as a married couple and seeing our laughing friends throwing rice on us. In general the fact that we were in Venice with our most selected and beloved people was just loving and magical. Oh and also the grand canal ride after the ceremony!”

Bride’s Advice: “Enjoy every second of it. it will be one of your most cherished lifetime memories. Follow your own agenda and do not aim to please anyone else in terms of how you want the ceremony to be or who to invite to your wedding but yourself. This is Your day!”
